ZAM- NEWLY ELECTED NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) was instituted in 1979 as the Zambia Union of Musicians (ZUM) to address the collective needs and challenges facing musicians in the country. The organization represented music artists in all matters arising in the industry until February 2001, when ZUM was transformed into an association, and was renamed the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM). In 1994, the National Arts Council Act 31 came into force. Under this act it became a requirement for ZAM, as an Arts Association, to be registered with National Arts Council (NAC) in accordance with Part II of the Statutory Instrument No. 129 of 1995.

ZAM is the only music body recognized by the Government of the Republic of Zambia, representing all musicians in Zambia. ZAM is a non-political organization (though artist Pilato is one person who can debate that point against the prio Executive committee ), which believes that music transcends all forms of political, religious, tribal and international boundaries.

The role of ZAM is to provide direction and guidance to music in Zambia in terms of the livelihood and well-being of the artists, moulding of the local music. Thus preserving our cultural and traditional heritage.

ZAM work is focused on the following strategic areas as outlined in ZAMs’ 2014 – 2018 Strategic Plan which came about with the support of the USAid Share II Project:

1. music marketing, promotion and protection
2. music business capacity-building and training
3. strategic partnership and advocacy
4. coordination, management, and administration of ZAM and
5. awareness-raising and social commentary.

And now here  is the list of the newly elected ZAM NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2018 TO 2020 with the top position that was once occupied by Njoya Tembo being replaced by Tivo
