The Wikimedia Community User Group Zambia proudly announces the conclusion of the 2024 Wiki Loves Earth competition, marking a milestone with a record high of 433 images submitted. This year’s competition saw enthusiastic participation from photographers across the country, capturing the diverse and stunning natural heritage of Zambia.
The annual photography competition, aimed at documenting natural sites around the globe, has once again highlighted Zambia’s rich biodiversity and scenic landscapes. Participants submitted photographs of national parks, nature reserves, and other protected areas, showcasing the country’s natural beauty and contributing to the Wikimedia Commons repository.
“We are thrilled with the incredible response this year,” said a representative of the Wikimedia Community User Group Zambia. “The quality and quantity of submissions reflect the growing interest in preserving and promoting our natural heritage.”
The winners of the competition will be announced in late August or early September, with prizes awarded for the best photographs that meet the competition’s criteria. The judging panel, comprising experts in photography and environmental conservation, will evaluate the images based on technical quality, originality, and the depiction of Zambia’s natural wonders.
As Wiki Loves Earth concludes, the Wikimedia Community User Group Zambia is already gearing up for another major event: Wiki Loves Monuments. Scheduled to take place from October 1 to October 31, 2024, this competition invites participants to photograph and upload images of Zambia’s cultural and historical monuments. The aim is to document and promote the country’s rich cultural heritage, encouraging locals and visitors alike to explore and appreciate Zambia’s historical sites.
“We are excited to build on the momentum from Wiki Loves Earth and continue engaging the community with Wiki Loves Monuments,” the representative added. “These initiatives not only enrich the Wikimedia Commons with valuable visual documentation but also foster a deeper connection and appreciation for our heritage.”
