The Zambian music industry is dominated by men there are a few women who remain consisted over the taste of time and still manage to survive, here is our list of top five women who are surviving and making it for themselves in the industry….
- MAMPI
She a dancer, song writer and singer.She released her first album entitled MALOZA in the year 2005, then in 2007 her second album entitled CHIMO NI CHIMO, participated in big brother Africa 2012. She has been nominated on born n bred and Zambian music awards a couple of times and has performed in different countries across the world.
- CLEO ICE QUEEN
She a hip hop recording artist, she started her music career in 2011 with her single hit BIG DREAMS which featured JK. In December 2016 she released her debut album GEMINICE. She is Proflight Zambia and Diva woman condom brand ambassador, a model, radio and television presenter she currently presents a reality singing show called DREAMS on Zambezi magic. In 2012 she was nominated for southern Africa hip hop awards,in 2013 best female upcoming born and bred,2014 best new artist Zambian music awards,2015 she won AFRIMMA best female in southern Africa, 2016 she was nominated for AFRIMMA and the Zambian music awards. She also Participated in big brother Africa 2013 (THE CHASE).
- SALMA SKY
She is a model and recording artist, Salma first came to the music scene by featuring in JK’S KAPILIPILI song in 2010, since then she has done great songs like wonderful world, FOLO FOLO, RUBY, CHIMUMBABE, NON STOP and her recent hits ZAMBEZI and KALUBANGO. In 2012 she won best RNB video for born n bred, in 2013 she performed at Big Brother Africa, in 2014 she was nominated for best female Zambian music awards
- KAY FIGO
She joined the music scene in 2010 with a hit called CHACHILAMO which featured the late P-JAY, then she went to release her first album called KANYELELE
- KANTU
She has a Degree in Art with Education and Master of Science in Environmental and Natural Resource Management from the University of Zambia. In 2010 she participated in a competition called IN DA HOOD which she won, in 2012 she entered another competition called TALENT YAPA ZED but she only reached the top 10, in 2013 she worked on a project called from PAST TO PRESENT which won best traditional album of the year in 2015. In 2013 she was signed to XYZ that very year she featured in most of Slapdee’s songs from the BUSINESS ALBUM. She released her first single MUNGELI in 2014, the same year she released ALANGIZI and KONEKE. In 2015 she was nominated for Zambian music awards in 2 categories and born n bred awards for best upcoming female.
