Kawina Poho:A dedicated Community Servant & Change Agent
Kawina Poho is a passionate community servant, advocate, and aspiring change-maker from Solwezi, Zambia. Born to dedicated educators, Mr. and Mrs. Poho, Kawina’s commitment to community service and leadership was instilled from a young age.
Early Life and Education
Kawina completed his primary education at Mushitala Basic School and attended Kikombe Basic School for his junior secondary education. He later graduated from Soltech with a Grade 12 certificate. Kawina’s academic excellence and entrepreneurial spirit paved the way for his future success.
Entrepreneurial Spirit and Work Experience
Before pursuing higher education, Kawina demonstrated his entrepreneurial prowess by selling broiler chickens at local markets. He also worked as a taxi driver, contributing to his family’s income. Additionally, Kawina gained diverse work experience as a Sales Assistant at PEP Stores Solwezi, Broker for Professional Life Assurance, and General Worker at Kansanshi Mine.
Education and Career
Kawina pursued his passion for public health, earning a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a Master of Science in Epidemiology & Biostatistics. He is currently advancing his expertise by pursuing a PhD in Global Infectious Diseases. With over 10 years of experience in the public health sector, Kawina has worked extensively with NGOs to improve healthcare systems and data management. He currently leads the Health Informatics department at a prominent Zambian NGO.
Community Service and Leadership
As a dedicated community servant, Kawina has been involved in various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people in his community. He has presented child and adolescent health issues to the Parliamentary Committee on Health and serves on various technical working groups, providing expertise in public health, health informatics, and system strengthening.

Kawina is passionate about driving positive change in his community, with a focus on industrialization, youth empowerment, quality healthcare, and education. His journey from humble beginnings to becoming a renowned public health expert has equipped him with a deep understanding of the struggles and aspirations of the people of Solwezi.
